What Is Adventure Capital?

by Greg DePersio

Adventure capital is similar to venture capital in that it is funding provided to small businesses just starting up. However, it is often associated more closely with capital used for humanitarian aid and development.

Another definition of “adventure capital” is funding that is provided to specific types of startups that are considered far too risky for traditional venture capitalists. Adventure capital investments may be smaller, as adventure capitalists may not have the same large amounts of wealth that traditional venture capitalists have.

Less commonly, an adventure capitalist may simply be a wealthy individual who seeks out risky and exciting experiences.
