Tools on a Budget

Technology solutions in the Cloud today offer amazing interoperability never seen before. Browsing through sites like the QuickBooks Online App Center, the Google Apps for Business Marketplace, or GetApp.com can help you find business solutions that affordable, easy to use, and work together without causing you a lot of extra work.

Here are a list of five tools you should consider for your business, whether you are working as a freelancer on the side, or if your part time career is shaping up to be a full time pursuit.

Method CRM – Method is a Canadian company based in Toronto. They have a web based solution for managing sales opportunities, customer interactions, and is built specifically for QuickBooks Online or Desktop. Starting at only $25 per user per month, Method is easy to set up, they provide some assistance to get you started, and Method works with other Cloud apps such as MailChimp, G-Mail, Outlook and SmartVault for document management. Many CRM solutions are available, however for Canadian QuickBooks clients, Method is a great opportunity to manage customer data and sync with QuickBooks.

GShift Labs WPO – If you have full or part-time business that is dependent on your website, knowing how that site is ranking on search engines is extremely important. GShift Labs, based in Barrie, Ontario helps you understand how your site is ranking on Google, Yahoo and Bing with their “Web Presence Optimizer” analytics tool. It lets you know how your site is performing against your closest competitors, and how your social media channels are performing. All this information can be e-mailed to you or a client on a scheduled basis, or you can log in online and find out how your online marketing activities are doing on an ad hoc basis all starting for less than $100 a month.

Shopify – If you are going to sell online, there are many considerations of security, payment processing, shipping, marketing, and reporting. Shopify helps streamline those processes for you. With integrations for QuickBooks Online or Desktop and GShift Labs’ Web Presence Optimizer Solution, Shopify is an affordable way to set up an e-commerce presence to sell your products and/or services online. It also works with…

WordPress – You want to have an attractive website that is scalable, and empowers you to be able to market your business to your clients without being a web developer. WordPress is available through a number of web hosting providers as a free content management system, or through WordPress.com for an affordable monthly fee. Choose from one of thousands of themes available either for free or at a low price. WordPress has evolved from a blogging platform into the most popular web publishing platform, supporting about twenty percent of all websites. StudioPress and ThemeForest are a few great sites for themes.

HootSuite – Keeping up with all your Social Media Channels is difficult both to stay on top of other people mentioning you or your business, as well as posting items on Social Media when you might have a full time job and a side business. HootSuite allows you to track mentions, schedule posts for when your audience is on social media, and to be able to quickly monitor Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus from a single dashboard. The best part is, HootSuite is free for up to four social media profiles.
