Since launching QuickBooks Online in Canada four years ago, we’ve witnessed a dramatic shift in Canada’s small business landscape, driven by wider cloud adoption and entrepreneurs’ increasing use of mobile technology to manage their businesses.

We’ve seen exceptional growth, more than doubling our customers in the last two years as small businesses are increasingly choosing QBO as the operating system fuelling their success. In fact, we’ve just hit an exciting milestone: 100 thousand active users in Canada.

While we’re always looking to the future to keep innovating for our customers, at each new inflection point we like to take the opportunity to reflect on the people who have been with us since the beginning. In today’s “Customer Spotlight”, we catch up with one of our earliest adopters to learn more about how QuickBooks Online and cloud technology has impacted her business.

For Suzanne McNenly, her passion for art and technology go hand in hand. Most people might consider it to be an unconventional pairing, but when it comes to her business, these two areas have a lot in common.

“When I adopt a new technology, that inspires my art and how I use it. Anytime a new innovation comes along, I just see my art in a new way and I’m inspired by the different ways to use it.”

As one of the first users of QuickBooks Online in Canada, Suzanne isn’t just an innovator in the creative arts; she was one of the earliest adopters of cloud technology and this eagerness to take advantage of new tools and technologies is woven into every aspect of her business, from jewelry design and sculpture to financial management.

Suzanne, who graduated with a degree in economics, knew when she launched her business 10 years ago that identifying the right tools, resources and advisors to manage her finances would prove critical to her long-term success. Unable to find the right accountant who specialized in her field, she took ownership over her own books using QuickBooks, eventually collaborating with her husband for strategic financial guidance.

As a long-time user of QuickBooks, she migrated to the cloud-based offering right as QBO launched in Canada in 2012.  Managing all aspects of her business in the cloud has enabled Suzanne to collaborate with her husband in real-time to gain strategic insights into her business and identify new opportunities for growth. Using QuickBooks Online, her husband can access her books from his PC and she can continue to check in on her books from anywhere – like tradeshows, festivals, art shows etc. – using her Mac.

“I love that with a subscription service like QuickBooks Online, you can access no matter which platform you use or wherever you are. I also like I receive automatic software updates and don’t have to purchase a new product to access new features or functionality. I have so many devices that having to constantly re-download software is a pain. Intuit takes care of everything for me.”

With her infectious passion for her craft and solid grasp on her finances, the future is bright for Suzanne. Next on her accounting to-do list? Integrating her QuickBooks Online with Shopify and Square to streamline her e-commerce and make it easier to track sales transactions at conventions and festivals.

Thank you Suzanne for letting us be part of your entrepreneurial journey, we’re proud to support your success.
